The roster takes a supervisor most of a morning, and it is not a morning of skilled work. It is checking leave requests against a calendar, remembering that two people cannot cover the same station, remembering who is certified for the forklift, remembering that someone asked for Thursdays off in a conversation six weeks ago. Then demand shifts on Tuesday and half of it has to be redone by phone. The constraints are all knowable. Holding them in one head at one time is what makes it hard.

Give it the constraints
Connect your HR system for availability and leave, your certifications or skills records, and whatever holds the demand — orders, bookings, production plan. Add the rules that live nowhere: minimum rest, who cannot be paired, standing preferences you have agreed to.
Let it draft the roster
The agent proposes a schedule that covers demand, respects every constraint, and spreads unpopular shifts fairly rather than by who complains least. It tells you where it had to compromise and why.
Adjust and approve
You know things the systems do not. Move what needs moving; the agent re-solves around your changes rather than making you re-check every downstream effect by hand. Nothing is published until you say so.
Handle the week as it actually goes
When someone calls in sick, the agent finds who is qualified, available, and within their hours, and proposes the cover with the message already drafted. Filling a gap becomes a decision, not an hour of phone calls.
